Panorama, Time - Moderna Therapeutics, une entreprise de biotech basée à Cambridge, Mass., a expédié les premiers lots de son vaccin COVID-19

Le co-fondateur et directeur de Moderna Therapeutics est un entrepreneur américain d'origine arménienne Noubar Afeyan.

Le vaccin a été créé 42 jours seulement après la séquence génétique du virus COVID-19, appelé SRAS-CoV-2, qui a été détecté par des chercheurs chinois à la mi-janvier.

Les premiers flacons ont été envoyés à l'Institut national des allergies et des maladies infectieuses (NIAID), faisant partie des Instituts nationaux de santé (NIH) de Bethesda, MD, qui préparera le vaccin pour les tests humains dès avril.

Les scientifiques du NIH ont également commencé à tester un médicament antiviral appelé remdesivir qui avait été développé pour Ebola, sur un patient infecté par le SRAS-CoV-2. L'essai est le premier à tester un médicament pour traiter COVID-19, et sera mené par une équipe de l'Université du Nebraska Medical Center.

Le premier patient à faire du bénévolat pour l'étude révolutionnaire est un passager qui a été ramené aux États-Unis après avoir été testé positif pour la maladie à bord de "princesse diamant". D'autres diagnostiqués avec COVID-19 qui ont été hospitalisés feront également partie de l'étude.

Noubar Afeyan, ainsi que les hommes d'affaires et philanthropes Ruben Vardanyan et Vartan Grégorian, ont fondé l'initiative 100 LIVES en 2015.

Panorama, Time - Moderna Therapeutics, a biotech company based in Cambridge, Mass., has shipped the first batches of its COVID-19 vaccine.

Moderna Therapeutics’ co-founder and director is American entrepreneur of Armenian descent Noubar Afeyan.

The vaccine was created just 42 days after the genetic sequence of the COVID-19 virus, called SARS-CoV-2, was released by Chinese researchers in mid-January.

The first vials were sent to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD, which will ready the vaccine for human testing as early as April.

NIH scientists also began testing an antiviral drug called remdesivir that had been developed for Ebola, on a patient infected with SARS-CoV-2. The trial is the first to test a drug for treating COVID-19, and will be led by a team at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

The first patient to volunteer for the ground-breaking study is a passenger who was brought back to the US after testing positive for the disease aboard the Diamond Princess. Others diagnosed with COVID-19 who have been hospitalized will also be part of the study.

Noubar Afeyan, along with businessmen and philanthropists Ruben Vardanyan and Vartan Gregorian, founded the 100 LIVES initiative in 2015.
